SPAM Issue #1 – Society, Politics, Art, and Media:
The pamphlet “SPAM: Society, Politics, Art, and Media” outlines a new zine series about alternative, DIY, and politically-progressive media, arts, and culture. It is a short zine (4 pages) outlining our project. SPAM zine is a zine series written, edited, and published by the Stale Bread Collective. We have a rotating membership, and didn’t make our names public on the pamphlet.
SPAM Issue #2 – My Time in the Moshpit:
Written by recent Ph.D. Katie Victoria Green, co-edited by Rachel Webb and the Stale Bread Collective.
Issue 2 is about Canadian punk scenes and DIY/independent music venues. Drawing on interviews with venue owners, musicians, and members of punk scenes from Peterborough, Montreal, and Vancouver, this zine offers a playful and irreverent look into punk rock – and what it means to do participatory research these constantly changing, creative, and messy scenes.
All the artwork in “My Time in the Mosh Pit” draws on classic zine & punk aesthetics. Hand-drawn and assembled, xeroxed, and filled in with sharpie marker.
The zine is filled with photographs from Katie’s interviews and time in the scenes, including of now-closed venues like The Spill (RIP), once a cornerstone of Peterborough, Ontario.
